New York Road Trip: Day 4
Visit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Chinatown, Little Italy
We traveled back into the city today on the bus, just like yesterday. The only difference was that we had to take a subway ride with a transfer between trains to reach the Metropolitan Museum of Art (MMA) on 82nd Street and Central Park West. First off, we found this to be the LARGEST museum that any of us have ever visited. It is simply enormous in size and scope. We visited several galleries including: Egyptian Art, European sculpture and paintings, and Islamic art. We also went up to the top of the MMA to visit the roof-top gardens where there was a unique exhibit of brightly colored modern sculptures by Jeff Koons. We were told that a new exhibit just opened of paintings by J.M.W. Turner that we also saw. We ended our day at the MMA with a visit to the American Wing. Following our day-long visit to the MMA, we took the #6 subway to lower Manhattan to visit the Canal Street area. Here, we strolled through NY's famous Chinatown and then crossed Canal Street and walked up and down Mulberry St through Little Italy. We ended our day with a dinner at Lunella's that we thoroughly enjoyed. Chris wore a pedometer and we noted that we walked more than 5 miles today.
